Fast progress in our struggle – closing in on 300 petition signers!

By February 13, 2025Updates

Maybe the Yonkers noise issue is a soothing distraction from other news, but Quieter Yonkers is marching toward victory. Petition signers crossed the 200 mark earlier today, now we’re at 235 and coutning. We are pressing our case on all fronts.

Media is picking up on it, and we could have some TV coverage. If you have strong feelings about the noise issue, and want to share them with the news, please let me know. We’re looking for volunteers to meet with a TV reporter soon.

In some ways, at least, we’re doing better than Bengaluru, India. The local paper reports noise levels of 90 decibels in traffic jams (5 decibels above the new Yonkers daytime max). Neverthelss, Yonkers had a lousy noise ordinance compared to theirs. Their residential day time noise level is 8X quieter than ours. Their night time limit is 4X quieter. Check out this thoughtful report.

Meanwhile, iTallinn Estonia is truly putting Yonkers to shame. “The City of Tallinn has developed an action plan to reduce environmental noise in public spaces. By law, the city must mitigate noise levels exceeding set limits to ensure a healthy living environment for residents while also preventing noise from hindering economic activity.” Read all about it.
